Isle of Harris Wedding Celebrant

Beach weddings, elopements and heartfelt ceremonies across the Hebrides and Highlands

Hi there, I'm Margaret, your Harris wedding celebrant

I live in the Bays of Harris and work as an Isle of Harris wedding celebrant. Before that, I spent 22 years as a wedding photographer, covering around 600 weddings across the Highlands and Islands, from beach elopements to big family celebrations in castles and country houses.

All that time behind the camera taught me what makes a ceremony feel real: the right words, a calm pace, and space for the people who matter most. Becoming a celebrant felt like a natural next step. I love writing and telling stories, and now I get to write yours and stand beside you as you make your promises.

Your Wedding Ceremony

People often say I put them at ease quickly and that I'm a calming presence on the day. I believe your wedding should be entirely yours, looking and sounding the way you want it to, and reflecting your values and the things that bring you joy. I take pride in personalising every ceremony and writing your story from scratch, just for you.

My ceremonies are humanist, which means they're non-religious and centred entirely on you, with room for a favourite reading, a family tradition or a handfasting. Whether you're planning a quiet elopement for two or a celebration with everyone you love, we'll shape it together.

I can also help with the practical side of an island wedding: timing the ceremony around the tide and the light, what to wear on a breezy beach, and a sensible plan B for Hebridean weather.

When I'm not at weddings, I'm a painter and poet. I have a gallery at my home in the Bays of Harris, and you'll often find my whippet Skye and me out walking and swimming.

Your story, written for you and spoken in the place you love.

Harris Beach Weddings and Wedding Locations

Harris has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and I know them well: Luskentyre, Seilebost, Horgabost, Scarista and Huisinish. After more than sixteen years photographing this landscape, I know where to stand, when the tide is right and where to shelter if the wind picks up.

If you'd prefer to be indoors, or want a party afterwards, the Outer Hebrides also has wonderful venues, including Talla na Mara and Amhuinnsuidhe Castle on Harris, and Lews Castle and the Caberfeidh Hotel in Stornoway. I cover Harris and Lewis as standard.

I also take weddings across the Scottish islands, including Skye, Uist, Mull, Coll and Orkney, and throughout the Scottish Highlands, from Eilean Donan and Glencoe to Loch Ness and the castles and country house hotels around Inverness. These are places I know well from years of photographing weddings there. Travel costs apply outside Harris and Lewis.

Training and Authorisation

I trained through UKCAPSA and hold a Celebrant and Public Speaking Diploma. I'm an authorised celebrant with the Fuze Foundation, so I'm backed by an experienced team.

Because I'm newly qualified, each legal wedding I take on currently needs its own authorisation rather than being covered by one blanket licence. Organising this is straightforward and makes no difference to how your day is planned or led.

CHECK MY AVAILABILITY

Bookings are made through Fuze Ceremonies, the celebrant organisation I'm authorised with. You can see my available dates and book your ceremony here.
